These districts significantly increased their SBAP reimbursement for specialized transportation by expertly identifying and claiming eligible transportation expenditures. They led the state in transportation expenditures claimed on a per capita basis for vehicles and routes used exclusively for specialized transportation, producing transportation reimbursements ranging from $111K in small districts to $156K in midsize districts to $737K in large districts.

Methodology notesSpecialized transportation reimbursement per student receiving transportation is calculated by dividing the portion of the district's SBAP reimbursement attributable to expenditures classified as “only specialized transportation” by the district's total number of students receiving transportation services. Figures are from the FY25 school year. FY26 data has not yet been submitted as of publication.
